"What is man, in 2007?" This is the crucial question of the premises in Luxembourg, Romania and Greece.

The artistic proposal “MIORITA, MELOUSINA and SPHINX of Thiva “ voted to place in both this year's cultural capitals of Europe, Sibiu Romania and Luxembourg through a telecommunications network to Greece as part of the events organized by the European Cultural carrier Arscenic

Through an interactive telecommunications network by Athens, it made possible the transfer of the live image of visitors from one city to another and vice versa, viewed on screens among  printed portraits-photographs of people of the destination cities. The image was transmitted and displayed in real time. Simultaneously hidden loudspeakers on each installation whispered the voice of the legend of   the other city as suddenly the Sphinx appears and asks about the meaning of the European civilization. People can react by making their own hybrids at info kiosks.  The work is an allegory on our hybrid époque starting from the role of technology and going to the phenomenon of immigration. 

 

The Sphinx, the global Greek (Theban?) legend, is through the depths of human prehistory, the archetype which marks the degradation of culture through the constant and emblematic question on the nature of man: "What is human being?" is the question raised today on the verge of an era that collapses amid greed, violence, ecological destruction, loss of history and knowledge, the signs of wear, illness and death of modern civilization. The question is urgent and if the culture found the answer then the monster Sphinx-that nourishes, gets lost. But if a solution is not given, then an entire era, a people, a worldview, follow the inexorable fate of death. The Sphinx is the danger signal, the risk of the death and challenge the responsibility of human-culture to know itself and save the world.

ΤΙ ΕΙΝΑΙ Ο ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΣ το 2007;

Αυτό είναι το κρίσιμο ερώτημα των εγκαταστάσεων σε Λουξεμβούργο, Ρουμανία και Ελλάδα.

Η εικαστική μας πρότασή μας ΜΙΟΡΙΤΑ, ΜΕΛΟΥΣΙΝΑ και η ΣΦΙΓΓΑ  ΤΩΝ ΘΗΒΩΝ  ψηφίστηκε για να πραγματοποιηθεί και στις δυο πολιτιστικές πρωτεύουσες της Ευρώπης, το Σιμπιού της Ρουμανίας και το Λουξεμβούργο διά ενός τηλεπικοινωνιακού δικτύου με την Ελλάδα, στα πλαίσια των εκδηλώσεων  που διοργανώνει ο ευρωπαϊκός πολιτιστικός φορέας Arscenic

Μέσω ενός τηλεπικοινωνιακού δικτύου διαδραστικής επικοινωνίας δια της Αθήνας, γίνεται εφικτή η μεταγωγή της ζωντανής εικόνας των προσώπων των επισκεπτών από την μία πόλη, σε οθόνες ανάμμεσα σε ακίνητα πορτρέτα-φωτογραφίες ανθρώπων στην άλλη πόλη και αντίστροφα (διαγράμματα 1 και 2), εικόνα που μεταδίδεται και προβάλλεται  σε πραγματικό χρόνο (real time). Ταυτόχρονα από τα κρυφά μεγάφωνα κάθε εγκατάστασης θα ακούγεται  με ψιθυριστή φωνή ο θρύλος - μύθος της άλλης πόλης.
